Tampa Museum of Art Launches Expansion
The Tampa Museum of Art has announced the start of its Centennial Expansion Project, which will transform the museum into a vibrant arts hub and a cultural anchor for downtown Tampa. A formal ground-breaking celebration is set for early October 2025.
Following the completion of the museum’s renovation, the expansion will launch with the construction of two public dog parks that will be located between Curtis Hixon Park and Kiley Gardens. The dog parks’ new location and size, with separate spaces for small and large dogs, will make the museum amenities more accessible for downtown residents.
Announced in 2021 and funded with over $100 million given by individuals, families, and corporations, as well as the City, County, and State, the nearly 78,000-square-foot museum expansion will create a new series of interconnected, multifunctional art spaces designed for accommodating expanding collections and dynamic public engagement.
The Tampa Museum of Art’s expansion is designed as a crystalline pier extending the museum to the edge of the Hillsborough River and will include a 150-seat auditorium, an art lounge, food services and dining space, a large event space, and a proposed rooftop space, providing flexible settings for art and cultural programming. New redeveloped public spaces along Curtis Hixon Park and the Tampa Riverwalk will also feature new outdoor sculpture areas.
